Nkechi Simms, one of our previous Story of Care volunteer ambassadors, has a starring role in a new BBC3 drama series PRU (Pupil Referral Unit).

A recent feature in Positive News explains how the 22-year-old left mainstream school at 12, but through the charity The Big House was able to get experience and channel her emotions into acting. The Big House helps care leavers at risk through drama by bringing marginalised voices to the stage. Nkechi has also had a role in Netflix’s popular TV series Top Boy.

Letters from Lockdown was the first of our creative projects as part of Voices Through Time, a programme of events for care-experienced young people aimed at telling the ‘Story of Care’. It involved six creative writing workshops which took place online during Covid-19 restrictions and a weekly letter writing challenge. Nkechi was one of eight care-experienced young people who took part in the project.
