Join us for a one-day adventure into the history of the Foundling Hospital, the UK’s first home for children whose mothers were unable to care for them.

Together we will transcribe (type up) as many historic records from the Foundling Hospital’s archive as we can.

These records tell the story of children in care there through papers, volumes and letters. They include registers showing the names of the children taken in to the Hospital and letters from mothers appealing for their children to be able to live there.

You can take part by transcribing with us from your own home, and join in whenever you like. Do 10 minutes on your lunch break or dip in throughout the day.

We’ll also be running discussions and a talk about the fascinating history of the Foundling Hospital (on Zoom).
