Come and experience Coram’s new immersive, audio-visual installation, exploring the past and present of the British care system.

Using a blend of media, the artwork explores pertinent, timeless questions about the care system, mixing snippets of life from the Foundling Hospital with those of young people in care today.

From 1741 to 1954, the Foundling Hospital supported 27,000 children, offering them security from birth until the age of 21. Coram continues this work, supporting children who are unable to live with their families, creating better chances for children. Foundlings, mothers and staff of the Foundling Hospital will come to life within Coram’s walls. They’ll merge with the stories, perspectives, thoughts and feelings of present-day young people. A group of care-experienced young people are collaborating on the installation, shaping the concept and contributing art to appear within it.

There is no need to book a ticket to this free event – just turn up!

This immersive artwork was made possible by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, which supported the digitisation of Coram’s Foundling Hospital Archive.
